Commissioning a bespoke pool raises questions long before the first stage of design. Below are the questions we are asked most often, with honest, considered answers. If your question is not covered here, our team would be glad to speak with you directly.
01 How long does it take to design and build a bespoke pool?
Timescales vary depending on the complexity of the project and the type of installation. As a general guide, a straightforward outdoor pool might take 12–16 weeks from approved design to completion. Indoor and basement pools, particularly those integrated into a wider new-build or renovation, can take 6–12 months when factoring in coordination with the main build programme. We provide a detailed programme at the design stage, so you have complete clarity from the outset.
02 How much does a luxury swimming pool cost?
Every Preston Pools project is bespoke, so costs vary significantly based on the size, type, specification, and site conditions of each installation. We are transparent about pricing from the earliest conversation and provide detailed, itemised quotations so you understand exactly what is included. We are happy to discuss budget expectations during an initial consultation with no obligation.
03 Do I need planning permission for a swimming pool?
In many cases, a swimming pool within the curtilage of a residential property falls under permitted development and does not require planning permission. However, there are exceptions; listed buildings, conservation areas, and certain outdoor installations may require formal consent. Our team can advise on the planning position for your specific property and, where necessary, support the application process.
04 What ongoing maintenance does a pool require?
All swimming pools require regular maintenance to ensure water quality, equipment performance, and structural integrity. This includes water testing and chemical balancing, filter maintenance, surface cleaning, and periodic equipment servicing. We provide comprehensive handover guidance and can recommend trusted maintenance providers in your area. Many of our clients choose to maintain their pools themselves with our ongoing support and advice.
05 Can you work with my architect or builder?
Absolutely. Many of our projects are delivered as part of a wider new-build or renovation programme. We are experienced in coordinating with architects, structural engineers, and main contractors to ensure the pool element integrates seamlessly with the overall build. We are happy to join the project team at any stage. The earlier we are involved, the more efficiently we can coordinate.
06 What types of pool do you specialise in?
We design and build luxury indoor and basement pools, outdoor and infinity pools, lap and fitness pools, hydrotherapy and disability-accessible pools, and custom jacuzzis and water features. Every project is bespoke; we do not offer standard or off-the-shelf pool packages.
07 Do you offer aftercare or maintenance services?
Our commitment to your pool does not end at handover. We provide detailed maintenance guidance, are available for technical advice, and can arrange periodic inspections or servicing where required. We believe that the relationship between a pool builder and their client should last as long as the pool itself.
08 Where do you work?
We are based in the North of England and primarily serve clients across Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cumbria, and the wider North West. We also take on selected projects further afield where the scope and specification align with our expertise.
