What a swimming pool costs in the UK depends less on the pool's size than on its type and site: whether it is outdoor, indoor or basement; the ground conditions and access; the plant, filtration and heating specification; and the finishes chosen. That is why we quote every project individually after a site visit rather than from a price list. As a guide to timescale, a straightforward outdoor pool takes around 12–16 weeks from approved design, while indoor and basement schemes typically run 6–12 months inside a wider build programme. The pool shell itself is only part of the budget: the building envelope for indoor and basement schemes, air handling and filtration plant, and the finishes you choose all play a part, which is why two pools of a similar size can carry very different costs. It is also worth allowing for VAT, landscaping or interior fit-out around the pool, plant room space, any electrical supply upgrade and a sensible contingency, all of which we set out in your itemised proposal.

02 How long does it take to design and build a bespoke pool?
Timescales vary depending on the complexity of the project and the type of installation. As a general guide, a straightforward outdoor pool might take 12–16 weeks from approved design to completion. Indoor and basement pools, particularly those integrated into a wider new-build or renovation, can take 6–12 months when factoring in coordination with the main build programme. We provide a detailed programme at the design stage, so you have complete clarity from the outset.
03 Do I need planning permission for a swimming pool?
In many cases, a swimming pool within the curtilage of a residential property falls under permitted development and does not require planning permission. However, there are exceptions; listed buildings, conservation areas, and certain outdoor installations may require formal consent. Our team can advise on the planning position for your specific property and, where necessary, support the application process.
04 What does it cost to run a swimming pool each year?
Running costs depend on the pool's size, heating method, insulation and how much a cover is used. A well-specified heat pump, cover and heat-recovery system reduces running costs compared with an older or uninsulated setup, and we model expected running costs as part of the design stage for every project.
05 What maintenance and aftercare does a pool need?
All swimming pools require regular maintenance to ensure water quality, equipment performance, and structural integrity. This includes water testing and chemical balancing, filter maintenance, surface cleaning, and periodic equipment servicing. We provide comprehensive handover guidance and can recommend trusted maintenance providers in your area. Many of our clients choose to maintain their pools themselves with our ongoing support and advice. Our support continues after handover: we are available for technical advice and can arrange periodic inspections or servicing where required.
06 Does a swimming pool add value to a home?
