Richard approached Preston Pools to design and build an outdoor swimming pool at his secluded West Cheshire home. The brief called for a generous skimmer pool set within the surrounding countryside, paired with a garden annex containing an enclosed bar and a covered alfresco dining area — a single outdoor setting the family could use across the seasons.
The site is beautifully secluded and surrounded by mature nature, so any visible hardware risked breaking the calm of the setting. Young children use the area regularly, which made pool safety a non-negotiable. The challenge was to deliver a substantial 11m pool with full safety provision, while keeping the finishes soft and natural enough to disappear into the landscape.
We specified an 11m × 5m skimmer pool, graduating from 1.2m to 1.8m depth, finished in light-coloured tile with a basalt natural stone top edge and wood-effect Millboard surrounds. A bespoke automatic safety cover runs on concealed rails along the pool, hidden when retracted. Triangular access steps and LED pool lighting complete a clean, uncluttered poolside profile.
The finished pool sits quietly within its surroundings — light tile, basalt stone and timber-effect decking working together to soften the installation into the landscape. The separate annex provides an enclosed bar for cooler evenings, and the covered log-fire dining area extends use into the colder months. The automatic safety cover gives the family complete peace of mind around the children.
