Pools Built
for Public Use.

Preston Pools designs and builds commercial and institutional swimming pools alongside our residential work, bringing the same in-house engineering, project management and finishing standard to schools, hotels and leisure facilities. As commercial pool contractors, we understand that a public-use pool is a different proposition to a private one: it has to meet public-use standards, serve a wider range of users safely, and keep running reliably under far heavier day-to-day use.

Our commercial experience centres on special educational needs schools, where the brief goes beyond a pool and into a therapeutic facility. We have delivered a £5.7m SEN school redevelopment in Preston and a twin-pool hydrotherapy and teaching facility on the Wirral, both built to serve pupils with a wide range of physical and sensory needs, every day of the school year. That grounding in institutional accessibility, compliance and duty-cycle engineering carries across into hotel, leisure and care-setting projects, where the same standards apply.

If you are scoping a commercial swimming pool installation for a school, hotel or leisure facility, this page sets out our institutional track record and what we look for in a commercial brief — our guide to commercial pool installation covers the planning and procurement detail in full.

Institutional Hydrotherapy,
Delivered.

Our clearest commercial track record is in SEN schools, where we have designed and built hydrotherapy pools as part of wider institutional redevelopments — not adapted from a domestic design, but specified from day one for daily use by vulnerable pupils. At Sir Tom Finney Community School in Preston, built as part of a £5.7m conversion of the former City of Preston School into a state-of-the-art SEN facility, we delivered an 8m × 6m level-deck hydrotherapy pool with perimeter grab-rails and a long step entry for dignified, independent access, DMX-controlled colour-change lighting for sensory therapy, a UV water purification system, air-sock ventilation, and an automatic slatted cover for heat retention and safety.

At Foxfield School on the Wirral, we built a twin-pool facility serving pupils' therapeutic and recreational needs side by side: a 5.6m × 4.4m hydrotherapy pool running at a constant 35°C with DMX sensory lighting, alongside a separate 10m teaching pool, both with level-deck edges, long-step entry and shared ventilation and water-treatment infrastructure. Both projects required us to engineer for accessibility as a baseline rather than an add-on, and to work within a school's own operational calendar, procurement process and stakeholder sign-off — governors, facilities management, and often local authority building control. Our hydrotherapy and accessible pools page covers the access and therapeutic specification side of this work in more depth.

Public-Use Standards

Built for Public Use,
Not Adapted for It.

A commercial or institutional pool sits under a different compliance framework to a private pool: water quality, plant redundancy, disabled access and pool surrounds all need specifying to public-use standards from the outset, rather than retrofitted once a scheme is already under way. Every stage — plant sizing, programme coordination, commissioning and aftercare — is planned around how the facility will actually be used, day in and day out.

Plant Sized for Real-World Duty

A school, hotel or leisure pool is rarely used the way a private pool is. Filtration, heating and water treatment plant have to be sized for near-continuous use across a school day or a facility's opening hours, not the intermittent pattern of a domestic build.

Coordination With Your Programme

Institutional projects usually run inside a live, operational site. We plan around term dates, trading hours and event bookings, and coordinate directly with your main contractor, architect and facilities team so the pool build sits inside the wider programme rather than dictating it.

Aftercare That Matches the Duty Cycle

Commissioning a commercial pool means handing over documentation and guidance built for an institutional operator, not a homeowner — water treatment balancing, system calibration, and ongoing support sized to daily, heavy use.

The Same Discipline,Whatever the Setting.
Hotels & Leisure

The Same Discipline,
Whatever the Setting.

We are also able to bring this approach to hotel, spa and leisure facility projects — the standards, plant sizing and stakeholder coordination are the same discipline, whatever the setting. It is the same in-house, single-point-of-contact approach set out in our process, applied to a commercial brief.

We can work within your organisation's own procurement process and provide the documentation it requires — from initial feasibility and specification through to commissioning records and operator handover.
