Tony approached Preston Pools to transform a tired, dated indoor diving pool into a classy, modern swimming environment. The brief was a full refurbishment rather than a new build — bringing an existing 8m skimmer diving pool up to a contemporary luxury standard without rebuilding the pool shell from scratch.
Refurbishment work brings its own constraints — the existing shell, including two radiused corners at the top of the pool, had to be worked with rather than around. Retrofitting a modern automatic cover to an existing pool, and adding wall-mounted access, demanded bespoke manufacture and careful integration with the original structure.
We retiled the pool in a pearlescent white tile that draws out blue tones underwater and contrasts with the stone surrounds. A hidden cave was built to house a bespoke automatic cover, precisely manufactured to fit the two radiused corners. Modern wall-mounted steps and rails allow easy access while still letting the cover close.
The finished pool is a classy modern masterpiece — a complete transformation of the original diving pool. A high-gloss stretched vinyl ceiling with LED lighting adds the wow factor overhead, the pearlescent tile gives the water a fresh tone, and the retrofitted automatic cover sits neatly within its concealed cave.
