Gerry approached Preston Pools for an indoor pool defined by light — a room flooded with daylight from large roof windows and a wide span of glass doors opening into the gardens, with views shared through to the adjoining gym and dining room, and a feature wall to anchor the space.
Carrying daylight — and the reflections from the water — through to the adjoining dining room and gym meant designing the pool hall around large glazed openings and a six-metre span of glass doors. A split-face stone feature wall with a fountain running over it had to be lit and integrated cleanly with the pool's systems.
We built a 10m × 5m, 1.25m-deep indoor pool finished in pearlescent blue tile, positioned to catch light from two large roof windows and a six-metre run of bi-fold doors to the gardens. LED lighting runs throughout and highlights a fountain spilling gently over a split-face stone feature wall, with a concealed automatic cover.
The finished pool is flooded with light, its pearlescent blue tiles throwing reflections through to the dining room and gym. The in-wall waterfall over split-face stone, the bi-fold doors to the garden, the level-deck edge and the blue cover combine into a calm, light-filled room — recognised with a Bronze SPATA Award.
