Darren's family approached Preston Pools to design and build a serious training pool within a £10 million private residence on the Fylde Coast. As keen swimmers, they wanted a full short-course lap lane — half the length of an Olympic pool — paired with a generous family play area, spa and steam room. The finish had to match the standard of the rest of the house.
Fitting a 25-metre regulation short-course lane into a private pool hall is a significant footprint, and the pool then needed to open out into a 6m × 4m play area and a 3m square spa without the room reading as three separate pools awkwardly joined together. The wider Lytham home set an exceptionally high benchmark for finishes, so every detail had to hold up.
We specified a 25m × 3m level-deck lap lane with tile demarcations on the pool floor for tumble-turn judging, opening into a 6m × 4m level-deck play area with a second set of triangular access steps contoured to the building. A 3m square level-deck spa with water-jetted stone gratings sits alongside, with a 3m × 2m steam room finished in L-shaped mosaic-tiled benches.
The finished pool hall is a genuine training environment that still feels like a luxury family space. Pearlescent white tile gives the water a fresh blue hue, lap-lane demarcations support proper short-course training, and the play area extends use to the rest of the family. A matt and gloss stretched vinyl ceiling with full-spectrum RGBWW LED lighting transforms the mood at the touch of a button.
